Frances-Marie Uitti is a composer and cellist. She is the inventor of a technique using two bows in one hand to create 4, 3, 2 part chords, with a free left hand. A dedicatee of Kurtag, Nono, Scelsi, Harvey, Gosfield, Ueno, Bielawa with 2 bows, she has also created resonators, mutes, and a 12 stringless electronic cello. She has been commissioned by the Holland Festival, Akademie der Kunst, Venice Biennale, National Sawdust, and ICA London. She has work with ECM records, Etcetera, Cryptogrammophone, Wergo, ZoAr, Mode, Seraphin, and BVHaast. She has received grants from the NEA and the Fromm Foundation.
