( 1952 – 2023)
During my stay at Civitella Ranieri, I had my first uninterrupted work period on a major new piece for large ensemble and the sampled voice of philosopher Daniel Dennett. This piece looks at humanity from a Darwinian perspective – mostly in the rapid time frame of cultural evolution, rather than the glacial pace of biological evolution. It was particularly appropriate to be working on this project in the heart of Italy, filled as it is with the marks of the peoples and belief systems that have swept through this landscape for millennia.
