The NBCC announced its 31 finalists in six categories––autobiography, biography, criticism, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry––for the outstanding books of 2018. Many Civitellians were listed including…

Autobiography: Rigoberto Gonzalez (CRF 2013) for What Drowns the Flowers in Your Mouth: A Memoir of Brotherhood (University of Wisconsin Press).

Criticism: Terrance Hayes (CRF 2015) for To Float in the Space Between: A Life and Work in Conversation with the Life and Work of Etheridge Knight (Wave).

Fiction: Rachel Kushner (CRF 2016) for The Mars Room (Scribner).

Poetry: Terrance Hayes (CRF 2015) for American Sonnets for My Past and Future Assassin (Penguin Books).

The awards will be presented on March 14, 2019 at the New School in New York City. The ceremony is free and open to the public. A reading by the finalists will take place the evening before the awards, on March 13, also at the New School.
