Two Civitellians have been awarded 2025 Creative Capital Awards.
yuniya edi kwon (CRF 2024) received a Performing Arts grant for their interdisciplinary performance “How does it feel to look at nothing,” “an opera of the elemental, of pre-deities, and illusions of containment.” Composed and performed alongside Holland Andrews, the opera hopes “to reflect the shifting, disintegrative reality of trans life, while also offering an expansive, transformational vision of trans futures.”
Divya Victor (CRF 2023) received Literature grant for “Kin,” “a collection of six essays that explore ecstasy, agony, and frisson as kinship catalysts in the South Asian diaspora through visual arts, film, architecture, and global Anglophone poetry.” The book “breaks with traditional notions of the essay to invent a prose-form that enacts the order, rhythm, and drape of the sari (புடவை puṭavai) worn by Tamil women—a pleating (not blending) of verse, vignettes, petits essais, and visual objects.”
