MIGHTY MIGHTY: The Barbershop Project” by Devan Shimoyama (CRF 2024) returns to Washington, D.C. May 22 to July 27th.
The project, originally launched in 2019, reimagines the barbershop as a site of transformation, self-expression, and queer beauty. Inspired by Devan’s experiences growing up as a Black queer youth, the exhibition transforms CulturalDC’s Mobile Art Gallery into a vibrant space for community care and conversation. Featuring immersive design, free haircuts, and paintings by Devan, the installation invites visitors to reflect on identity, visibility, and healing.
