“Broadway Hubbub,” Carl D’Alvia’s (DG 2009, 2017) latest outdoor sculpture installation, is on view now along the Broadway Malls in New York City. The five larger-than-life aluminum sculptures coated in automotive paint from Carl’s “Liths” series “slouch, bend, and wander through the world while holding a sort of sculptural mirror up to us,” says the artist.
Drawing on influences from ancient monoliths to 1970s artists like Alexander Calder and Tony Smith, these works reimagine traditional forms with humor, vulnerability, and human-like personality, such as “Hot Rod” and “Tandem.”
Presented in partnership with The Broadway Mall Association, NYC Parks’ Art in the Parks program, and HESSE FLATOW gallery, “Broadway Hubbub” is on view through November 17th, 2025 in the central traffic malls of Broadway from W 64th to W 117th Street.
