London writer Paige Cowan-Hall was announced recipient of the 2021 Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize for her story ‘Ohenemaa’ in which colonial oppression is explored through a subtle power play
between an ‘overseer’ and an Obeah (spiritual healer). As the Desperate Literature recipient, Cowan-Hall is awarded a monetary prize as well as a seven-day residency at Civitella Ranieri.
