May 14th, 2026 — Civitella celebrates Grammy award and Pulitzer Prize winner Gabriela Lena Frank‘s (CRF 2007) Met debut with her “spectacular” (The Times U.K.) first opera, El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Libretto is by the Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz with Isabel Leonard and Carlos Álvarez starring as Frida and Diego, and Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducting a new production by Deborah Colker. The production is on stage through June 5th.
In conjunction, MoMA presents an exhibition and bespoke gallery design inspired by the Opera’s production, Frida and Diego: The Last Dream, which opened March 29th.
