I’ve been working with the papers of Elizabeth Bishop for years. My time here constituted a fruitful pause from transcribing the journals, footnoting them, and organizing the forthcoming book. Presenting her work to the Fellows—some of whom had not known of her work—deepened my perspective and helped me particularly in thinking about the introduction to the book.
