Civitella was an experience that I expect to resonate far into my future. I found a wealth of inspiration in the other Fellows, the Italian countryside, and the excellent field trips to explore the rich history of the region.
I was extremely productive in my studio there, making new recordings, editing and shooting video in the surrounding area every day. I began a new body of work that explores parallels between the microphone and camera lens, making recordings that are shaped by movement of the microphone. There was time and freedom to make mistakes, resulting in discoveries that might not have happened otherwise. I feel very honored and grateful for my time spent there and for the perspective that it has given me in regard to my work and process.
