While composing my “Branches” for symphony orchestra, I had the opportunity to rethink and revisit a sonic world in all its rich possibilities. Civitella’s generous support gave me the time and freedom to work through some of the difficult issues that composing for the modern orchestra presents. In my residency, full of peace and clarity and beautiful surroundings, I was able to find a fresh way to approach this ensemble and my own path to enriching its tradition.
