Much to my surprise, I worked on several new poems, which made me feel very purposeful and alive. I also focused on research and editorial refinements of my second novel, The Going of the Inland Soul to Sea, a historical fiction set in late 19th and early 20th century Hawaii. The beauty of the Umbrian countryside and the informative field trips to Arezzo, Assissi, Monterchi, Perugia, San Sepolcro, and Urbino made this a rich and culturally splendid residency. My time here was enhanced by an unusually cohesive and supportive group of artists and writers–an immense plus. I had a a joyful, healing, and highly productive stay.
