Gioconda Belli is a Nicaraguan poet, novelist, and activist. She took part in the Sandinista Revolution and later became a strong critic of the Ortega regime. She has received major awards, including the Premio Biblioteca Breve, the Reina Sofía Ibero-American Poetry Prize, and the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize. Her work has been translated into more than 20 languages. In 2023, she was stripped of her nationality for her political stance. She lives in exile in Madrid.
