I tried something new for me at Civitella – working on two pieces at the same time. Since the pieces were very different, and since my time here was truly my own, I was able to find a simple way to proceed. I divided the day into two parts, starting one piece in the morning and turning to the second in the afternoon. To my great surprise I succeeded – not in finishing either composition, that was beyond me – but in digging deeply and satisfyingly into both.

The birds at my place (Pizza) always sang at sunrise.

Damn they were good!
