The second one, photographing landscapes with blue skies, is part of the Blue Series, started in 1999. In addition to this, the wonderful experience of being at the Center inspired yet another project.
The situation of the world today is very complicated. The earth, and humankind, are riddled with problems, such as the persistence of war. This is no secret to anybody. In fact, people are constantly talking about it, trying to understand it and striving to formulate theoretical solutions. However, if they could simply look at their hand and see their history and future, they would probably be able to make better decisions. Simply by looking at their hand. You may think this is an absurd idea. Just look at your hand and think about your future. Think about your history. You can also shake hands with your friends, brothers or sisters, neighbors, or even with passing strangers. As a result of thinking about these problems and talking and listening to the fellows, by the end of the five weeks at Civitella I had finished three new works: Time or Life, World Map, and History.
I would like to express my gratitude to all the fellows for the inspiration and ideas the have given me by sharing their work and time. Special thanks to one of fellow, Ricardo Arias, who, like me, was born on October 12. He is a musician and composer and has made the soundtrack that accompanies my triptic, The Hand Project.
