I think a lot about solitude and gathering and Civitella offers both, particularly the latter. The time spent alone was rich with reflection on my family and history. I was able to read new things as well as re-familiarize myself with texts (I found myself surprisingly going back to Shakespeare’s Henry plays). I loved that artists represented many disciplines across various stages of their careers and listening to them talk about their work, where it comes from, and where it’s going. It gave me a sense of the larger conversation.
