Tawanda Takura
Tawanda Takura is visual artist based in Harare, Zimbabwe. He is a self-taught shoemaker and sculptor who works with found objects – particularly discarded shoes which he salvages and repurposes, giving them a new lease of life. His work is a commentary on the sociopolitical and religious structures in his country; identity and spirituality are reoccurring subjects in his work. He has participated in group exhibitions and residencies in Mauritius, Hong Kong, and South Africa since 2012. He received the 2024 Cassirer Welz Award (South Africa) and 2024 NAMA Award (Zimbabwe).
