Since 1995, Civitella Ranieri has provided life-changing opportunities for more than 1,000 writers, visual artists, and composers from around the world.

Encounters with the work of Piero della Francesca have been catalysts for countless Civitellians—artists like director, photographer, and author Véronique Caye (CRF 2024) and composer Andreia Pinto-Correia (CRF 2015). Véronique, during her residency, created the film The fairy tale is everything (still below), inspired by Piero’s fresco The Legend of the True Cross, which she visited on a Civitella excursion to Arezzo, and Cristina Campo’s writing. Andreia, moved by the same fresco cycle nearly a decade earlier, created Dalla Legenda Aurea, a quartet for oboe and strings (excerpt below).

Your gift, now more than ever, directly champions working artists. Please help us support the future Fellows of Civitella with a donation today. Discover (new!) ways to support below.

At Civitella, in its history, gardens, forest, Castle, and people, I found the perfect echo of Campo’s philosophy, “The fairy tale is everything.” I reply: “the fairy tale is Civitella Ranieri.”

— Véronique Caye (CRF 2024)
