Hildur Guðnadóttir (CRF 2010) won Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media yesterday at the 2021 virtual Grammy Awards. The Icelandic composer’s score for Joker previously won an Oscar at the 2020 Academy Awards. Also nominated in this category were Max Richter (Ad Astra), Kamasi Washington (Becoming), John Williams (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), and Thomas Newman (1917).
This is the second year Hildur has won the Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media; last year, she was recognized for her Chernobyl score. This year, she was also nominated for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella for the Joker song “Bathroom Dance.” Brava, Hildur! See this Pitchfork article for more.
