Civitellian Jane Hirshfield (DG 2013) says that environmental concerns began creeping into her poetry as early as 1988. In 2004, Hirshfield first addressed climate change directly in the brief, cautionary poem “Global Warming.” But, starting in 2014, there was a turning point where the public reaction to her poetry “really intensified.”
