Gina Apostol (CRF 2009, Juror) has just released a new novel, La Tercera. It’s about mothers, nation-making, Tacloban (Gina’s hometown), and Barugo (her mother’s hometown: called Salogó in the book); it’s about America (and imperialism), language, translation, mourning, and love.
A recent New York Times review says:
“La Tercera expects a lot of non-Filipino readers, but the effort is profoundly rewarding, opening up a glorious new understanding of a country and a culture that ought to mean more to Americans than a twinge of guilty conscience. For a Filipino, I suspect reading it might just feel like coming home.”
There will be a Zoom book event on May 13 with R. Zamora Linmark. For more information and to purchase your own copy, click here.
