May 19th, 2026 — CaLibro Festival and Civitella invite you to a special free evening with current Writing Fellow in residence, Mathias Énard on May 26th, 2026. At this Calibro Festival spinoff, Mathias will present his latest book Malinconia dei Confini. Nord with Italian writer and researcher (and friend of Civitella!) Lorenzo Alunni in the Sala degli Specchi in Città di Castello, not far from the Castle.

The event with Mathias closes a circle, as he was meant to participate at the CaLibro Africa Festival in 2025. Because of his residency, Mathias is finally able to step onto the CaLibro stage.

Malinconia dei Confini. Nord—E/O editions, Gregor von Rezzori prize-winning translation by Yasmina Mélahoua—is dedicated to a melancholic wanderer in autumn Berlin. It’s the first volume of a tetralogy that, between intimate cartography and collective history, weaves together memories, readings, friendships – literature. The event will also be an occasion to discuss Mathias’ other works, from Zona to Compass.
