Hukama igasva, unozadziswa nekudya is about the bonds and connections formed and strengthened, strangers transformed into friends, as a result of residency at Civitella. “Sharing and talking about our art practices and the act of always sitting together at the dinner table sharing our meals really solidified our bonds,” said Mavis. Each fellow made a contribution to the piece, with expressions in paint, collage, and text, “like a potluck,” letting their experience at the Castle guide them. “The energy that Civitella brought out of all of us,” she added, “[is represented by the] silhouettes [of Fellows] surrounding the Castle.” The stitching along the piece’s perimeter represents the connections made between the Fellows “thereby solidifying the connections we made,” she said. “I came out with friends and connections I think will last a lifetime.”

“We are grateful to Civitella Ranieri for the platform and opportunity for creatives to come together in one community and share and exchange.”
