November 18th, 2025 — We are thrilled to celebrate Civitella Fellow Megha Majumdar (CRF 2024) on her nomination for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction for her new novel A Guardian and a Thief.
Announced by the American Library Association, the finalists include some of the most acclaimed voices in contemporary literature. Megha’s recognition places her work—set in a climate-shaken near-future Kolkata and praised for its urgency and emotional depth—among the year’s most impactful novels.
Megha has spoken about her Civitella residency as a vital period of reflection and creative focus, and we are delighted to see her work continue to resonate so powerfully in the world, including with recent recognition by the National Book Foundation. The novel is currently a finalist for a National Book Award in Fiction.
Nobel laureate Han Kang’s We Do Not Part and Yiyun Li’s Things in Nature Merely Grow are also among the finalists for Andrew Carnegie Medals. Explore the full list at ala.org. The winners will be announced January 27th. Previous medalists include Jennifer Egan, Viet Thanh Nguyen and Doris Kearns Goodwin.
Complimenti, Megha!
