The New York City Opera has announced a spring 2021 season featuring works by the two prominent American composers, both Civitellians, Ricky Ian Gordon (CRF 2009) and Anthony Davis (CRF 2011).

The NYCO will first stage the world premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon’s opera “The Garden of the Finzi-Continis,” which is a co-production with the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene. Famed librettist and lyricist Michael Korie wrote the libretto, based on the novel by Giorgio Bassani. Performances will take place at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in April 2021.

The New York City Opera will also present a staged concert production of Anthony Davis’ opera “The Central Park Five.” Davis’ previous works include operas “X, The Life and Times of Malcolm X,” “Amistad,” and “Wakonda’s Dream,” among others. Cast, dates, and a venue for “The Central Park Five” will be announced at a later time.
