Rachel Kushner (CRF 2016) spoke with the New York Times recently about the many references to art and the art world in her writing. Kushner discusses her growing up around artists, and particularly the art scene in New York in the 70s and 80s: “I was interested in it not just for the work people were making but how they talked and how they lived and the way they performed their personalities, which seemed to me a component of what they do. The way they move toward their curiosity, stay interested in new things happening around them. I look to them, probably more than I look to other writers, for how to be an artist, how to recognize what’s yours for the taking.” Read the full interview here.
