Cyrus Cassells’ (CRF 2023) latest book To The Cypress Again and Again: Tribute to Salvador Espriu was recently reviewed in RHINO Poetry. Colin Pope writes:

“I have accidentally set myself the impossible task of encapsulating the grandeur and heart-fluttering mastery obvious in these deft translations of Salvador Espriu’s poems. If I’m being honest, I feel utterly unworthy of offering an opinion on Espriu… There is much [to discover] here—dazzling tribute poems, telling photographs, a fuller biography, etcetera—that pays a fitting tribute to a brilliant poet who is as-yet underappreciated in the United States. I was blindsided by Cassells and Espriu’s unassuming project, undereducated as I am in Catalan poetry, the Spanish Civil War, Francisco Franco, and the bloody filigree connecting them all. In this, To the Cypress Again and Again must be considered a stirring success. One feels drawn by necessity to learn more, if only to better understand this work.” Read the full review here.

Cassells was also recently interviewed on the YouTube series Poet to Poet with Radha Marcum about the new collection. Watch the video here and learn more about Cassells’ collection here.
