ROBINSON, a chamber opera for self-playing pianos, music automata and seven singers, will premiere at Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin on February 25. Composed by Oscar Strasnoy (CRF 2006), the opera is an adaptation by playwright Sigrid Behrens of Daniel Defoe’s novel Robinson Crusoe. The work reflects on life in seclusion: the withdrawal into inner worlds and the escape into parallel ones. It is an exploration of how isolated people deal with time, their struggle against loneliness and emptiness, and their search for greater meaning in life.
