Each year the Academy honors over 70 composers, artists, architects, and writers with awards and prizes ranging from $5000 to $100,000. The recipients are chosen by committees whose members are drawn from the Academy’s roster. Candidates for awards must be nominated by an Academy member. Amongst the Jurors were Martin Bresnick (CRF 2011) for Music and Amy Sillman (CRF 1999) for Visual Arts. Congratulations to all of the following Civitellians who were honored this year!
Visual Arts (announced on March 23): Jennifer Coates (CRF 2019), Jennifer Packer (Incoming Visual Arts Fellow 2022), and Susan Walp (Juror, Incoming DG).
Literature (announced on March 29): Salvatore Scibona (CRF 2011), Laura Van Den Berg (CRF 2018), and Chang Rae Lee (DG 2019).
Music (announced on Feb 22): Gabriela Lena Frank (CRF 2007), Annie Gosfield (CRF 2008), Yotam Haber (CRF 2019), Wang Lu (CRF 2016), and William Dougherty (Incoming Music Fellow 2022).
Yehudi Wyner (DG 2009) received the Gold Medal for Music (announced on March 26).
On March 5, the Academy appointed 29 new Members. Amongst them were Anthony Davis (CRF 2011), Sigrid Nunez (CRF 2013), and Henry Threadgill (CRF 2001).
2020 and 2021 honorees will be recognized, including forty-six new members and over one hundred fifty awarded to architects, artists, writers, and composers, at a virtual awards ceremony on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 7 p.m. EDT. Access this page on May 19th to watch the ceremony.
