Ashkan Behzadi’s (CRF 2021) ecstatically lyrical and intricately vibrant song cycle, Love, Crystal and Stone spins a fiery and ornate poetic narrative, imagining a radical folklore based on the poetry of Federico García Lorca & Ahmad Shamlou’s translations and recordings of them. This project exists as this stunning book from TAK Editions, designed by the graphic luminaries at Sonnenzimmer and featuring macabre, sensuous paintings by Mehrdad Jafari. Cultural theorist Saharnaz Samaeinejad crafted a transportive and engrossing essay—an excerpt of which serves as the cornerstone of the book.
