Yesterday, the American Academy of Arts and Letters announced the 18 recipients of this year’s awards in music. Among those awarded are Gabriela Lena Frank (CRF 2007), Annie Gosfield (CRF 2008/Juror), Lu Wang (CRF 2016), Yotam Haber (CRF 2019), and William Dougherty (Incoming Music Fellow 2021). Gabriela and Annie were both awarded the Arts and Letters Award in Music which honor outstanding artistic achievement and acknowledge composers who have arrived at their own voice. Wang was awarded the Wladimir and Rhoda Lakond Award in Music which awards composers and was established through a bequest from Wladimir and Rhoda Lakond. Yotam was awarded the Benjamin Danks Award in Music which is given in rotation to a composer of ensemble works, a playwright, and a writer, and is made possible through a gift from Roy Linden Danks to encourage young talent. Dougherty was awarded the Charles Ives Scholarship which began after Harmony Ives bequeathed to the Academy the royalties of Charles Ives’s music, enabling the Academy to give awards in composition since 1970.
