September 1, 2026 — Twice in the past month, work created at Civitella has been featured in the Academy of American Poets’ Poem-a-Day series: Raymond Antrobus‘ (CRF 2025) moving poem dedicated to his fellow Fellow, the composer Charles Uzor (CRF 2025), and Lyudmyla Khersonska‘s (DG 2022-present) powerful “When Crimea was still a place a light”, translated by Ilya Kaminsky (CRF 2025) and Katie Farris. Lyudmyla, who—together with her husband the poet and clinical psychologist Borys Khersonsky—has been in residence at Civitella since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, wrote the poem last year at the Castle.
“Charles Uzor” was featured on August 21st; and “When Crimea was still a place a light“, on September 1st. Between these, Ocean Vuong‘s (CRF 2016, DG 2022) “Independence Day“ was the selected poem on August 28th.
