We are pleased to announce the inauguration of the Tyburn Foundation Affiliated Fellowship.
Each year, the Tyburn Foundation, based in Umbria, will sponsor one or two African artists for a six-week residency. Civitella will be hosting Driaan Claassen (South Africa) in 2025, and Khadija Jayi (Morocco) and Option Dzikamai Nyahunzvi (Zimbabwe) in 2026.
Alongside the residency, this award includes a broader commitment from the Tyburn Foundation to support the artist’s career, offering mentorship, exhibition opportunities, and further development beyond their time at the castle.
Building on the legacy of Tyburn Gallery, which championed emerging African artists, the Tyburn Foundation supports early and mid-career visual artists from Africa. Founded by South African art collector and former gallerist Emma Menell, the foundation is committed to nurturing the next generation of African artists, driving professional development, and amplifying global visibility.
We celebrate this new partnership and look forward to welcoming Driaan to Umbria in a few short months! Click here to learn more about the Tyburn Foundation.
