Brad Kahlhahmer’s (CRF 2022) exhibition Bowery Nation: Birds Are Talking” is on view now at Venus Over Manhattan (55 Great Jones Street, NYC). This latest iteration of his ongoing “Bowery Nation” series, including eight bedsheet paintings and a newly conceived “Supercatcher” sculpture, traces a deeply personal cosmology shaped by Indigenous storytelling, punk aesthetics, Abstract Expressionism, and the textures of NYC street life.

The centerpiece, “Mesa, 6:00 AM” (2024), began outdoors in the Arizona desert, with Kahlhahmer folding and transporting it in his carry-on luggage as he moved between several locations — including his residency at Civitella — before completing it in his Bushwick studio. Like the rest of the exhibition, “Mesa, 6:00 AM” embodies Kahlhamer’s idea of the “third place,” where Indigenous heritage, urban experience, and personal history collide.

The gallery is open for viewing Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 6pm. Learn more here.
