We are delighted to celebrate that Canisia Lubrin (CRF 2022) has won the 2025 Carol Shields Prize for Fiction—North America’s largest English‑language literary award for women and non-binary writers—for her debut collection Code Noir. The jurors praised it as “a virtuoso collection that breaks new ground in short fiction,” noting its “polyphonic” engagement with slavery, colonialism, violence, and speculative history—reimagining the structure of the 1685 French decree with fifty-nine linked stories and original drawings by Torkwase Dyson.
