October 12th, 2025 — Civitella’s Residency Director Diego Mencaroni and Programs Assistant Greta Caseti attended ganavya’s (CRF 2021) concert in Milan tonight at the Church of Saint Nicholas of Flüe in Milan, presented by ALL THINGS LIVE ITALY. During the show she invited the audience to sing along with her the folk Appalachian song “500 Miles,” which she also performed in the Civitella Chapel during her residency. Greta also provided translation for ganavya’s remarks during the performance.
In her 2024 album Daughter of a Temple, ganavya brings into the present the ancient narrative art of the harikatha, intertwining spirituality, experimental music, and a radical contemporary vision. In her latest album, 2025’s Nilam, the artist grounds takes inspiration from a myriad of political and spiritual callings and features her family on the recordings. Her ensemble of collaborators include esperanza spalding (CRF 2018) and Immanuel Wilkins (CRF 2025), among others.
