The 61st season of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in Santa Cruz, CA will pay posthumous tribute to festival co-founder, scholar, and composer Robert Hughes (DG 2015) by featuring his pieces during two events, “Rise and Fly” and “Wild Geese,” on August 12th and 13th. “Uutiqtut” is inspired by the Arctic region while “Estampie” reflects the influences of Hughes’ mentor Lou Harrison. The Festival Orchestra will also perform works by Gabriela Ortiz (CRF 2009) and Olga Neuwirth (CRF 2016).
