Nachtplasmen for Orchestra and video-score with Son-Icons by Charlotte Hug
Charlotte Hug Statement:
At this residency I could dive deep into my new intermedia composition for the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble. Beside of this work there was a big surprise. – a whole new work started to grow – Mormorio dei muri del Castello – this could happen thanks to the big inspiration of the spirit of the Castle and the rich contributions of the other fellow artists. Thinking about composing in the context of globalisation was again a big issue in my work and much inspired by the presentation and exchange of the other fellow artists.
Charlotte Hug, the Swiss born composer, inter-media artist and musician of the extreme is constantly pushing the boundaries. She reinvented the viola. Her speciality is also a blend of viola and vocals using high falsetto, vibrating glottal sounds, multi-phonics and language like articulation, which has resulted in an unmistakable and unique tonal language. Hug has recorded an extensive discography including three solo CDs, on international labels. Having completed her studies in fine arts and music, she received various awards such as “artist in residence” in London, Paris, Berlin, Cork, Johannesburg, Shanghai and she was “artiste étoile” at the world-renowned Lucerne Festival. As soloist, composer & conductor of her own works, she is present at major festivals worldwide. Hug gives Masterclasses and leads the postgraduate studies „Creation & Scenario in Music“ at the University of the Arts in Zurich.
