May 22nd, 2026 — Today Berlin-based musician and instrument builder Werner Durand (CRF 2013) released a new album with his duo FLOCKS (Karlrecords). Lagoon continues the duo’s exploration of immersive drone soundscapes shaped by self-built wind and string instruments, Persian percussion, and subtle electronics.
FLOCKS, comprised of Werner and collaborator Uli Hohmann, draw inspiration from Krautrock, experimental drone traditions, and Jon Hassell’s influential “fourth world” aesthetics, creating music that moves fluidly between tradition and experimentation. The album follows the duo’s acclaimed 2023 debut and further develops the distinctive sonic language they have crafted together over years of collaboration.
The album’s three extended compositions, “Whirls,” “Tidal,” and the twenty-minute title track “Lagoon,” create expansive musical landscapes that feel both ancient and futuristic. Reviewing the duo’s debut release, critic Eyal Hareuveni described FLOCKS as “archaic but highly seductive techno music resurrected from an unknown tribe,” while Westzeit praised the music as “magnificent… ethereal in the best sense of the word.” The album artwork, a painting by Janos Fischer, surely reflects this.
To celebrate the release, FLOCKS will perform at KM28 in Berlin (Karl-Marx-Straße 28, 12043 Berlin) on Wednesday, June 3rd.
