Monika Bravo (CRF 2021) has a piece entitled Victory over the Sun #15 installed at No Vacancy. In this temporary public art commission funded by the city of Miami Beach, Monika is interested in activating corners, surfaces that seem to be unnoticed, hidden, not so relevant, by highlighting that which is in a state of being as the cycles of time and diverse places point to a different perspective. The piece speaks to her ability to transform by giving value to curiosity and giving space to sense life in new undiscovered ways, perhaps not so much guided by the hand of an authority figure but rather by an internal wisdom that may sprout if given the right amount of attention, space and trust. Read her artist statement here.

No Vacancy is a juried art competition that celebrates artists, provokes critical discourse, and invites the public to experience Miami Beach’s famed hotels as destination art spaces. This year, No Vacancy will present ten temporary public art projects through December 9, 2021.

For the second edition of No Vacancy, $25,000 in prizes will be awarded, divided between a $5,000 prize by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau determined by public vote and a $20,000 prize awarded by a jury of art experts. The GMCVB’s People’s Choice Award and Juror’s Choice Award will be announced on December 9.

Please visit at the Betsy Orb if you are in Miami Beach. If you can spare a few seconds to support Monika, please vote for her piece here.
