My Neighbor’s Garden, an installation by Sheila Pepe (CRF 2019), will run through December 10, 2023 at Madison Square Park. In this project, Pepe has suspended strips of colorful crocheted material from the tops of eight existing lampposts and eight telephone poles around the park lawn and walkways.
With My Neighbor’s Garden, Pepe is also building community – to help produce her installation, she has convened crocheting circles.
As one weaver said, Pepe’s project “took a very indoor craft relegated to the women’s sphere and turned it outdoors.” Read more about this installation at this link.
