Millions of readers in thrall to Elena Ferrante, the secretive and wildly popular Italian novelist. If they are reading Ferrante’s books in English, they are absorbing the translation work of Ann Goldstein (DG 2017). Goldstein translated “My Brilliant Friend” and the rest of the Ferrante’s Neapolitan quartet. Ferrante’s latest novel, “The Lying Life of Adults,” also translated by Ann, is to be released across the world on Sept. 1.
