On January 23 at Roulette, Scott Johnson (CRF 2009) will be presenting the world premiere of Assembly Required and the NYC premiere of Americans with the exciting young ensemble Contemporaneous, conducted by David Bloom. Americans pairs an electric band lineup with the sampled voices of immigrants from China, Romania, and Afghanistan. Assembly Required was written as a purely instrumental companion piece for the same instruments, and as a reflection on popular music, the sociality that inspires it, and the gatherings where it occurs. It will also feature shamisen virtuoso Yoko Reikano Kimura, cellist Ashley Bathgate and pianist Stephen Gosling.
