Mikael Karlsson

Mikael Karlsson is a composer who specializes in dramatic music (modern dance, contemporary ballet, opera, and theater) but also writes for orchestras, chamber ensembles, choirs, and art installations. His many collaborators include choreographer Alexander Ekman, librettist Royce Vavrek, The International Contemporary Ensemble, and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir, as well as singers Anne Sofie von Otter, Lauren Snouffer, Rihab Chaieb, Callie Day, Anna von Hausswolff, Lykke Li, and Lydia Lunch. His operas are MelancholiaFanny and Alexander, and The Echo Drift.

Fernanda Trías

Writing, Uruguay

Fernanda Trías was born in Uruguay and is the author of five novels and a short story collection. Pink Slime (Scribner, tr. by Heather Cleary) was longlisted for the National Book Award and received the National Uruguayan Literature Prize, the Critics’ Choice Award Bartolomé Hidalgo, and Mexico’s International Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize. Both The Rooftop and Pink Slime received British PEN Translates Awards. Her work has been translated into more than fifteen languages. She currently lives in Bogotá, Colombia, where she works as a professor and researcher in a creative writing MFA program.
