Zanele Muholi (CRF 2012) has been awarded the SPECTRUM – International Prize for Photography and the accompanying exhibition ZAZISE at the Sprengel Museum Hannover. “ZAZISE, a word from isiZulu, Muholi’s mother tongue, means ‘make yourself known,’ also ‘inform yourself.’ In a change of perspective with those portrayed by Muholi, we experience our structural interweaving with disenfranchisement and discrimination, our Eurocentric perspective. We are asked to find new ways of dealing with ‘the other’ through understanding and empathy.”
