Deborah Willis
Deborah Willis (DG 2018), Ph.D, has served on the CRF Board of Directors since 2021. A photographer, professor, and curator, Deborah Willis is currently University Professor and Chair of the Department of Photography & Imaging at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University; she is also director of the NYU Institute for African American Affairs and the Center for Black Visual Culture. Her work has been exhibited throughout the US; she has received a MacArthur Fellowship as well as a Guggenheim Fellowship, among other recognitions. She has edited multiple collections and authored numerous books on visual culture, the photographic history of Slavery and Emancipation, contemporary women photographers, and beauty. Deborah Willis was on the board of the Society for Photographic Education, where she was Chair and received the Honored Educator Award. She is also the recipient of the College Art Association’s 2021 Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award for Writing on Art.
